New GFCF grants in Kenya, Kosovo and Uganda

Young Ambassadors: encouraging youth civic engagement & volunteerism

Participatory grantmaking to support the rights of sexual minorities, encouraging youth civic engagement, and growing local philanthropy: read on for more information on three new GFCF grants.

• $20,000 to UHAI-EASHRI – the East African Sexual Health and Rights Initiative, to conduct research on governance models around participatory grantmaking. Based in Kenya, UHAI is an indigenous activist fund which provides flexible, accessible resources to support civil society activism around issues of sexuality, health and human rights in East African, with a specific focus on the rights of sexual minorities.

• The Forum for Civic Initiatives (FIQ) in Kosovo received a grant of $15,000 to continue its work around the Young Ambassadors programme. Young Ambassadors aims to encourage youth civic engagement and volunteerism across Kosovo, while at the same time introducing young people to philanthropy and building their entrepreneurial skills.

• A grant of $17,000 to the Kabale Municipality Development Foundation (KMDF) in Uganda to conduct a series of consultation activities at the community level about the state of, and potential for, growing local giving in Kabale district.
