On 26 August 2026 a catastrophic flash flood swept through the Bhotekoshi / Trishuli river valley on the Nepal–Tibet border. While the full extent of the disaster is still becoming clear, GFCF partners in Nepal – Nagarik Aawaz and Tewa – Women’s Fund in Nepal – are in contact with their partners in the affected region.

All funds raised by the GFCF via this appeal will be directed to Nagarik Aawaz and Tewa. Funds will support their short, medium and longer-term relief and recovery efforts. As the needs of their partners and affected communities are better understood, this page will be updated with additional information.

Both Nagarik Aawaz and Tewa are experienced organizations in terms of disaster response. Most notably, they worked together following the 2015 Nepal earthquakes, rapidly mobilizing a women-led, community-based relief and recovery effort that prioritized remote, marginalized communities missed by larger aid operations.

The next #ShiftThePower Global Summit is set to be held in Kathmandu in December 2026. Nepal will be on the minds of many in the GFCF network, and we would encourage signs of solidarity with our Nepali hosts and colleagues to be shared via this appeal. At the GFCF, we will also be considering how the event may contribute to Nagarik Aawaz and Tewa’s longer-term recovery efforts.
