For the field, by the field: New resources for anyone involved in civil society re-imagining processes

Over the past six months, the GFCF and our partners have engaged in multiple conversations that explore the question, “What is Possible Now?” Through online and in-person meetings in Nepal and Kenya, we have asked ourselves what kinds of radical re-imagining, experimentation and reconfigurations will need to happen – and, indeed, are already happening, if at the edges of the dominant system – as we navigate the choppy waters of intersecting geo-political, economic and climate crises towards a better world.

We know that we have not been alone in these endeavours. And so we are pleased to share these materials here, in the form of videos and static images. They are not necessarily perfect or complete. They are not the product of extensive processes of research, but rather the product of small groups in conversation, gathered over flipcharts with blunt marker pens at a certain place on a certain day. In each case, however, they have been given an artistic “shine” by professional artists and animators. You are invited to us them to stimulate discussions, unlock imaginations, build on, adapt or evolve your own ideas… Let us know how some of the ideas shared here have evolved, taken new shape in your own processes, and feel free to feed them back into the larger collective repository of ideas. About the materials:

Videos and accompanying images: These emerged from flipcharts (see images below) produced by participants from across Asia and beyond at a meeting in Kathmandu in June 2025, and were brought to life in animated form by Greenhouse Cartoons in South Africa.

Extinguishing the Fire: This illustration is the work of Chief Nyamweya from Freehand Studios. It emerged out of discussions at the GFCF Community Philanthropy Symposium in Nairobi in October 2025 about what is possible now.
