25 Apr 2024
The board of the GFCF is delighted to announce the appointment of Shubha Chacko, Executive Director of the Solidarity Foundation. Shubha is a joyful activist who draws strength, knowledge and warmth from strong alliances and friendships forged with people from different walks of life. Her work experience over the last three and a half decades has been varied – but within the realm of development, human rights and social justice. She is currently the Executive Director of the Solidarity Foundation, an NGO that supports grassroots level organizations of gender/sexual minorities (LGBTIAQ+) and sex workers by building collectives, capacities and connections. She was recognized as a global diversity leader (Times Ascent Award) at the World HRD Congress, Mumbai 2017. Shubha is also a researcher and has authored reports and articles and has been an invited speaker at many national and international conferences. She has a Master’s degree in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
Speaking about her appointment to the GFCF board, Shubha commented:
“GFCF inspires! As a fellow traveler, I have felt supported, emboldened, and have drawn comfort from the frameworks offered, the connections facilitated, and the openness promoted. Joining the board offers me an opportunity to band together with others who are crazy enough to believe they can change the world. I am looking forward to drawing from the huge reservoir that the #ShiftThePower community is and from my fellow board members for my work with sex workers and the LGBTIAQ+ communities in India. The strong values of the organization will serve as a touchstone in all the work I do, while the passionate commitment to keep the flag flying high will help me draw strength and support.”
